This shows what outstanding value for money you can find in Navarra today. Andre Sanz with sons Xabier and Inaki set up in 2007 in Corella village in Ribero Baja and quickly began to focus on searching out old gnarled Garnacha vines.
This is their humble basic unoaked version from old vines grown on alluvial gravel and clay soils at 380 m altitude. Juicy, smooth with crunchy black and red fruits, light and easy-quaffing, perfect for the summer barbeque - if you can find it at £6.50 you have found a serious bargain! This unoaked Spanish Garnacha was also one of 100 winners in Wines From Spain Awards last year - quite rightly so.
If you want to try another Vina Zorzal Garnacha, their Malayeto Single Vineyard 2013 (£9.95 The Wine Society www.thewinesociety.com) is more powerful spicier with dense peppery undertones - it was also popular with tasters in our recent Navarra taste test.
